The Service to K-12 Committee recognizes the Reese Library for their outstanding work in Fall 2011 in promoting activities that contribute to improving teaching and learning in K-12 schools and overall? school improvement. Their efforts show Augusta State?s commitment to enhance the learning experiences of teachers and students in the seven local schools, three school districts and the world-wide accessible resource guide highlighted in the report.
The following departments have worked with students, administrators, and teachers at area elementary, middle, and high schools:
Department of Art
Brain Rust: Sculptor?s Studio Visit by Westminster School students and teacher
Brian Rust and Alan MacTaggart: judged the end-of year Art Show at Lakeside High School; critiqued the opening exhibition of Advanced Placement Student Projects to the individual students and teacher
Alan MacTaggart: conducted tour of art studio facilities for 30 Lincoln County High School Students and teacher Katrina Bowles; conducted Open Houe tour of art facilities for prospective and students and their families
Alan MacTaggart, Kristin Casaletto, Crystal Junod: conducted ASU Art Studio/Gallery Tour for 39 high school students organized by the Art Factory
Janice Whiting: supervised mural painting students who assisted the Juvenile Offenders group to organize a mural on the wall of the Augusta Water Plant

Communications and Professional Writing
Communications and Professional Writing faculty have served as advisors for high school projects and judges for the Evans High School Senior Projects. ?Local elementary and high school students have been cast in ASU theatrical productions.
The department has entered into a partnership with C.T. Walker Magnet School as the magnet school moves to a communication and technology focus.

Educational Leadership, Counseling & Special Education
Olajide?Agunloye: works with Glenn Hills High School?s School Improvement administrative team on strategies for meeting AYP; works with the administrative team at Barton Chapel Elementary School to plan the science gifted program.
E. Wayne Lord: advises the Aiken County School District on long range planning for its gifted education programs.
Paulette Harris: directs the ASU Literacy Center where K-12 students from throughout the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) are tutored free of charge; provides regularly scheduled workshops for CSRA K-12 teachers and parents of K-12 children on literacy related issues;
Kathleen Hogan: participates in the Kindergarten reading program at Lamar Milledge Elementary School each semester.
Peggy Ruth Geren: serves on the board of The Art Factory that conducts the program href="mailto:Art@School">Art@School in four schools at present
Alice Pollingue and Paulette Harris: developed a service project to provide information about students with disabilities for general education students?and provide the?ASU students an opportunity to read in a large group setting. Coordinated?through Principal Melissa Jones, undergraduate students?majoring in special education read storybooks to?general education classes at Sue Reynolds Elementary schools in grades K-2 and conduct a correlated student activity with each story.

Graeme Connolly: South Columbia Elementary School Field Day volunteer; Dr. Seuss? Read Across America reader
Craig Cooper: Community Coach for Cross-Country and Track at Aquinas High School; volunteer timer for Aquinas Swim Team
Shirley Darracott: member of the Westside High School Scholarship Committee
Lurelia Hardy: served as judge for Evans High School Senior Projects; coordinated student volunteers for Richmond County Area Competition of Special Olympics at Westside High School and Fort Gordon Special Olympics; annual reader for Dr. Seuss? Read Across America
Laura Russ: supervised the Kinesiology Klub members with the Fun Run at Cedar Ridge Elementary School

Jeanette Merriweather, Melissa Williams and Carol Hunter: supervised nursing student vision screening and anger management classes for 115 third and fifth graders at Monte Sano Elementary School
Jeanette Merriweather, Pamela Gray, Diane Robillard, Beverly Collins, and Carol Hunter: supervised nursing student vision screening and anger management classes for 125 third and fifth graders at Bayvale Elementary School

Reese Library
Reese Library Inreach Committee: Scholarships to ASU?s Kids University, Reader Rabbit and Math Blaster software on non-network computers for school-age children of adults who are members of the ASU community with a current JagCard using the library
Collaboration with the Richmond County Board of Education for teachers to check out materials from the Reese Library circulating collections upon application
Jann Marie Chandler: leads the reading program at Lamar-Milledge Elementary School
Fay Verberg: coordinates access to local high school students who bring permission slips from their school to use the reference services and collections
Camilla Baker: offers library research classes to local high schools either in the library or in the schools
Carol Waggoner-Angleton: member of 2011 Review Board for Senior Projects at Greenbrier High School
Rhonda Cornell: Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) activist at Davidson Fine Arts School
Yadira Payne: created 9/11: We Will Never Forget, LibGuide, a library research guide relating to the events and aftermath of September 11, 2001 utilized with permission by a K-12 school system in Kansas as part of their 9/11 memorial curriculum
Jeff Heck: Current President of Kiwanis of Uptown Kiwanis, a group that group hosts three clubs that perform community service and learn about leadership and serving others. They are Tutt Builder?s Club at Tutt Middle School, and one each at Westside High School and Academy of Richmond County. These groups have memberships of about 150 students.
